Srinagar July 18 : Jammu & Kashmir Awami Forum has embarked on an initiative to reach out to the families of the militants. One of such meetings was held at Arahams Shopian (South Kashmir) Near DC office with the militants families in which Over a Hundred of the Parents of former militants participated. Farooq Ahmed Chairman JKAF presided over the meeting and as spokesman JKAF said that the agenda discussed in the meeting included, the pointless violence in Kashmir which is hampering all progress. In this process those who took leadership to propagate violence are leading lavish lives with a secure future of their children with foreign education. The families of misguided youth who took up to violence are paying the price. A joint appeal, reiterating the futility of violence, was issued for the youth still indulged in violence. BASHIR AHMAD BHAT, COORDINATOR JKAF, GHULLAM MOHAMMAD CHOPAN, EXECUTIVE MEMBER AND AGA MEHMOOD SYED, SENIOR MEMBER JKAF were instrumental in arranging this meeting. It is pertinent to mention here that families mainly from Shopian of 118 militants neutralized by armed forces attended this meeting which also included parents of Dreaded militants Saddam Padder and Nasir Ahmed wani. They expressed their views that since Youth is the future of Kashmir; we jointly seek assistance to the deprived, badly hit by present turmoil families for financial assistance for educational needs for their children. Farooq ahmed on behalf of jkaf also urged locals to welcome the yatris as Amarnath Yatra which is the symbol of Kashmir culture and hospitality. The spokesperson of JKAF also condemned the statement of Al Qaeda’s leader about Kashmir and stressed that he has no business to interfere in Kashmir. This initiative of reaching out to people especially the militant’s families’ shall continue in the other districts also order to make Kashmir violence free. Presence and encouragement by local people in this endeavor is quite heartening.
