Our men are in the field and are continuously monitoring the locations, Says Iftikhar Kakroo

Srinagar 23 March (KNB): Regarding any chances of floods amid incessant rains in Kashmir, Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Chief Engineer Iftikhar Kakroo on Tuesday said that there is no need to panic and the situation is under control.

Kakroo, while talking to Kashmir News Bureau, said that there is no need to panic as the intermittent pauses in rainfall are helping in mitigating the possibility of floods.

“As the weather is also said to improve from tomorrow and if it goes like that, then we will be in safe territory. The present scenario is not what it was in 2014,” said Kakroo.

He said that the rains are falling continuously, but making predictions of floods on the basis of rain falling for two or three days is very difficult. “It depends on the intensity and duration of rains to make predictions regarding the possibility of floods. But the weather forecast is not that bad, which can trigger floods,” Kakroo said.

While regarding the preparation of I&FC in the present rainy conditions, he said that they are getting information continuously from different stations regarding the flood gauges, and men on the job are keeping vigil on embankments in case of any breach.

He also advised that people should avoid going into rivers and streams as the flow remains high, and the chances of drowning cannot be ruled out in such conditions.
